Howdy!

It has been a bit quiet on the home front recently.  I switched shifts with someone at work and now I’m only working two days a week in a row.  I feel so lazy because I don’t do anything with all this cool spare time I have.  I know it won’t last so I really should try and make the most of it.

Any ideas?

I am also bummed because it means that I am at work less and I love my job, even if I may complain about it from time to time.  I’m only human.

Tomorrow I will be heading home to try and get a start in cleaning out my room.  I must be ruthless!  My mum is trying to sell our house and therefore does not need all my stuff lying around my bedroom.  And even if she doesn’t end up selling, I really do need to have a good clean out.  I MUST BE RUTHLESS!!

Then on Friday night I’m going to see a movie with Kristy.  It is on at 9:15pm… WAY past my bedtime!!  I will probably need a nap in order to stay awake.  We’re seeing ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ as part of our local film festival. I’ve been dying to see this movie and I’m looking forward to getting to see it a good three months before it gets released in Australia.

Saturday, I’ll be looking after my little buddy, Buddy.  I went round to his house this afternoon to pick up the keys and his owner was amazed at how much he loved me!  As soon as I sat down, he jumped up on my lap.  He’s not really allowed on the furniture… except I allow him up on the furniture when I house sit.  Oops… busted!!

My time at Supanova

This weekend I volunteered at the Australian version of Comic Con which is known here as Supanova.  It was a ton of fun and I’m so glad I did it.  We worked two shifts and then got time off in the middle of the day to wander around.

Unfortunately my volunteer registration seemed to have slipped through the cracks and I wasn’t on the roster.  Which meant that I wasn’t allocated one of the big names that I wanted, like my friends who got the Weasley twins and Inara from Firefly.  Nonetheless I was in charge of the line for Richard Horvitz.  People seemed super excited to see him but I was freaking out and frantically googling the guy to try and find out what he’d been in as I had no idea!  He’s a voice actor and was pretty darn amazing.  I enjoyed hearing him do all his different voices for his fans who all delighted in seeing him in the flesh.  He was so sweet with his fans and really took the time to chat to all of them and make them feel special.  I was impressed!  The poor guy, his voice was starting to sound hoarse by the end of the day!

My joy of the day came when Admiral Adama himself brushed past me.  Eeeek!!  So exciting.  Apart from the fact that he looked so old, it made me feel sad.

My personal thoughts on some of the guests: Summer Glau was absolutely gorgeous.  Every time I see her on TV, I don’t think she is particularly pretty but in the flesh, she is divine!

Peter Facinelli (the Cullen dad from Twilight) was directly opposite me during his signing and was unbelievably handsome.  When my line was quiet, I spent a LOT of time just staring at him in a creepy manner.

During my break, I watched a panel done by the Weasley twins.  They seemed like nice guys and were old hands at answering any type of question thrown at them, either from small adorable children or creepy old women (I dread the day I will become one of them!).

I was very proud of myself as I didn’t spend any money on celebrities, I just had a great time peeking at them.  I loved wandering around and seeing all the stalls but my favourite part- seeing the costumes.  The only thing I didn’t enjoy was being pushed aside by a guy who was dressed as Darth Vader.  I truly hope he just didn’t see me when he was wearing his mask- I hope he wasn’t getting too into his role as Vader because that’s really douchey.

Every year I say I will dress up- and every year I forget until I’m at the convention!  I made a vow that next year I would dress up.  I got really excited when I worked out who I would be.  I decided to dress up as Cersei from Game of Thrones and that way I can justify going all out on the costume because I can then wear it to the medieval fair when I go.  That made me super happy!

This was my volunteer’s lanyard with all my pins :) I brought a pin for my ‘Send Something Good’ buddy.  So many girls asked about my mockingjay pin!

Twitter!

A new season of TV has started, which means new seasons of reality shows!  With this starts lots of tweets popping up live on the TV screens.

I have literally just joined the twitter-verse so that I can join in the game with my Roomies as to see who can get a tweet played live on national television first.  It's gonna be a battle.  I'm already sucking up to the shows big time.

But if you want to be my friend whilst I play the game, my handle is @laura_now.  It'll be fun!

Bulldog Puppies

For those of you who have been following my blog, you’ll know that I got to assist in a caesarean resulting in ten little bulldog puppies aka the best day ever (apart from that time, a convenience store’s fridge broke down and they were giving away free food).  I posted pictures and my thoughts on the whole thing here but if you can’t be bothered, here’s what they looked like at one hour old.

And here are the puppies at 6 weeks old.

Ahh!  I love them so much.  They are such chubby babies.  And look at their pink noses.  And they have freckles on their noses.  Ahh!!  Why so cute?!?!?!?

And as usual when it comes to baby animals… photo overload time.

Blu Ray Tuesday #22

And so it is with a sad heart, I must announce the shelving of Blu Ray Tuesdays.  I am swapping shifts with another nurse and instead of doing every other Tuesday, I’ll now be doing EVERY Tuesday.  Which means I won’t be home in time to enjoy the wonders of BRT.  Hopefully the Roomies and I will be able to do some other movie thing but for now… this is the last BRT post.  (Ouch, writing that makes my heart hurt!)

The movie:

immortals

The menu: Fancy pizza- chicken AND bacon!

Well, I guess I am ending in true BRT fashion.  This movie was AWFUL!  And it’s hard to say that, you know?  It has so many things that I love in it: beautiful visuals, Henry Cavill, Henry Cavill shirtless and Greek mythology.  Yet, somehow it ends up being a total hot mess.  So disappointing.

I was so excited when I heard they were making this movie.  Theseus is one of my favourite heroes in mythology and my home girl/goddess Athena is like front and centre of the story.  When I heard they were making the movie in a style reminiscent of ‘300’, I rejoiced.  And I believe I may have mentioned once or twice, I have serious mad love for Henry Cavill.

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I knew nothing of Greek mythology.  I spent all two hours of this movie going “WHAT?!??!”.  I frightened the dog I was looking after because I yelled at the TV so often.  I couldn’t enjoy it, I was so irritated.  And aside from that, there were other ridiculous annoyances that just added to the all encompassing belief I have that this movie is terrible.  For example, if your superhero power that can save the world is your virginity- you don’t give it up- even if the dude is Henry Cavill.  Also, the movie was boring.  I don’t know how they made a movie with swords in it boring, but they did.

Recommended?: No.  I’m getting harsh in my old age!

Sunday 15 April 2012

A very bored Sunday

I woke up yesterday and felt horribly under the weather.  I bravely soldiered on but today I was like “nope, I’m having none of it” and I didn’t do anything today.  Except for one special home project.

From this tragic scene in Hunger Games
rue
comes this delightful picture
artofrueing
This is called “The Art of Rue-ing by Marc Marcos”.  Here is a how to:
  1. Find a sleeping victim
  2. Arrange an array of flowers around said victim
  3. Perform the Hunger Games salute
  4. Take pictures
Happy Hunger Games.

I saw this a few weeks ago, giggled and then promptly forgot about it.  Until today when I was suffering from cabin fever and was home alone.  So I present to you: The Art of Rue-ing by me and my animals.

And a ‘true’ Rue picture:

I realised I never really got to write about my Hunger Games love before on my blog because I was away when the movie came out.  But I believe this post encapsulates it all pretty nicely :)

Send Something Good

I think there’s still time to sign up for this.  Should be lots of fun!

This is a post for whoever I get paired with and also a little random post because I have posted nothing for about a week.

Also I tried to pretty it up with pictures but for some reason, I couldn’t.  Silly technology.  So imagine lots of cute pictures and the like to accompany the post.

PLEASE do not send me a whole heap of stuff.  I live in Australia.  The price of postage is crazy.  I will love you just for sending me a little parcel in the mail.

Things I like:
Chocolate
Baby animals
Tea

Things I do not like aka don’t send me this stuff:
Brussel sprouts
Mean people
Teeth

So bear this all in mind when coming up with something to send.  I’m so excited for this project and for you, kind stranger, for sending me something good!

Turn that frown upside down

I have been in the weirdest mood recently. I know exactly why too, combination of coming down off that holiday high and also being that time of the month. This morning I couldn't stop crying and I moped about listening to sad love songs. Luckily the afternoon got a bit better.

I found this site, I think thanks to Suzy again and one of her Stumble Sundays. There is a link to a list of 100 ways to nurture yourself. I recommend checking it out.

And I recommend following along with me as I have decided that I am going to do one every single day. I haven't had that good of a look at the list and I think it will be fun to discover what I'm supposed to be doing on the day. Although I'm sure I'll crack later on and start reading the list in entirety and planning in minute detail what I'll be doing on what day.

Any takers on joining me on the 100 days of nurturing?

And bonus picture of a seal because I think they are adorable and amazing and lots of other adjectives beginning with A.

How do you make friends?

The art of making friends is something that you instinctively gain throughout school but becomes harder as you go through high school.  By the time you have graduated college, the knack for making friends is almost gone.

So HOW is one expected to make friends nowadays?  I am heartily thankful for the internet but I need more friends IRL to use internet speak.

I am in the midst of a dilemma.  There is a lovely lady who I petsit for and she has the cutest baby too.  This is her dog.

Ajax

Look how cute he is!!

Um, anyway, I get sidetracked.  The lady and I get on really well and I would love to be friends with her.  BUT how do you go from person who looks after your dog to friend?  Is it as simple as a text for coffee?

Any advice?

I’m baaaack!!

Truth be told, I’ve been back for a while.  Blogging kind of means admitting that real life is again the order of the day and honestly, I’m not quite ready for that yet.  My holiday was all kinds of amazing and I was going to do one big blog post about it but then I thought, if I do lots of little blog posts spattered here and there, then that kind of makes my holiday last longer.

But onto the real reason for posting: LASAGNE CUPCAKES.  Yes, two of the greatest words in the English language meet together to make a delightful meal.  One of my new blog friends Suzy has the coolest thing every Sunday where she collects all these different ‘stumbles’- definitely worth a check out.  I love all the different things she puts together.  And this week there was a link to this blog post which gives a recipe for LASAGNE CUPCAKES (it really does need to be in capital letters).  It was easy to make and mouth wateringly delicious!  Give it a try!

Nom nom nom!

For the next two days, I will be housesitting with the cutest boy.  And by boy, I mean dog.  Seriously, I’m crazy in love with him.  He’s a Lab called Ajax and I’m so looking forward to looking after him.  And I also love his family, they’re so nice.  I want to be friends with them in real life!!
